Hi everyone, a little background on myself in as short a period as possible. I have been a gamer for about 20 years now and in the last year have started working around on youtube which has become a big part of the whole game experience for me. I have played a very small amount of EVE in the past with friends so I was interested and excited to pickup dust.
Right now my level of experience is next to nothing. A lot of my subscribers were asking me to make a video about dust and my initial thoughts on the environment.
I would like to say that I appreciate that Dust is only in BETA and from everything I have heard there is a lot of support and updates to come so dont take my first thoughts as anything more than that.
I look forward to learning more understanding wrong conclusions I have made and perhaps if Dust becomes a title that I want to expand and continue playing I will really push contributing to it as much as possible. I have done this with Battlefield 3 and for the most part I've received a lot of positive feedback from the community and the DICE Developers and so on.
Here is my first initial thoughts on the game please bear in mind that I will post another updated video hopefully this week to expand and correct any incorrect statements assumptions or developments within thanks for reading and watching
Luetin.

Hi everyone,
thanks for all the excellent replies so far I have to say sometimes when new people post into community forums that seem to be as active as this one they can just get buried its really encouraging and pleasing to see that my initial post here has generated so much comment.
So I should try and reply to a couple of things so far. First off if you check my video right now quite a few others are saying how they are finding the complexity of the menu system and so on difficult to grasp. Now I am sure that given enough time and patience it can be figured out no problem. But I think it should be considered that new players will be joining and I think honestly the complexity of the rpg building would be enough to seriously put some people off. So perhaps this needs to be looked at. I suggested that for BF3 it would have been hugely helpful if DICE had provided some video resource to assist players in learning the foundations of the game in a very a-b-c style, they did start to make videos but bizarrely about 7 months into the games release which by then there were already better videos out on youtube by producers there.
I also want to say that I appreciate everyone understanding where I am coming from on my video and in general, I fully understand that the game is in a BETA and is not near to completion and I also understand that the game is not designed to be like cod or battlefield. Knowing how EVE is as a game I did have an expectation that it would resemble this and it obviously owes a large element of its design to this.
I understand the suits and their weight issue I actually think having weight for equipment makes a lot of sense and it irritates me how a lot of FPS really pay this no attention whatsoever. However on the other hand in DUST right now it does honestly feel like you are walking in quicksand sometimes or lagging and I dont think that can be right. It feels to me too light? when I was playing the game I kept thinking hmm perhaps this planet simply is meant to have a low gravitational field because thats how it felt to move around. I think having slow moving characters is fine but its more about the physical feeling of the player movement and I think my problem was that I felt a bit detached from the game because of the floating feeling I had with the character
When it comes to graphics I do think they need strong improvement however as I said with my video its honestly not the most important thing the most important things in games to me are - Strong balancing - good mechanics - good UI systems and most importantly above everything else - stable servers. Graphics comes down below all of these things, however I would be lying to say that I didnt think they were not on par right now and if the title wants to be successful its something that will have to be addressed. The default ground seriously needs some texturing and detail I think that was the biggest problem. The technical building areas and infrastructure were not so bad but the generic ground looks like someones just laid down a Vinyl mat it would be good to see rock particles scrub grass anything to make it feel like its an actual terrain and not just a sheet of colour.
When it comes to my opinion of DUST, I honestly need to spend more time in the game, I need to spend some strong time learning, and understanding more about it. Some of you have obviously been playing the game a lot and so thats always helpful to have people available to talk about it. Some the biggest things that I dont understand right now have been hinted at but not really explained
- Im not clear on how important or easy it is to join a corp or how you can communicate with players in the EVE world and the DUST world is there something that identifies them where can this be found etc - I need to spend more time looking at the skills area I can probably do that myself - In the games that I played I didnt see any air vehicles or tanks etc not clear on that - and its been mentioned about the maps taking place on different planets within the Eve universe is there a resource in game that can see our planets in relation to the EVE world etc etc. I think in general I havent really grasped how strongly dust is involved in eve and so on perhaps I will learn more simply by playing the game etc.
Thats where Im at right now guys there will be more videos from me about DUST. If I decide to really play the game properly then I will support it on my youtube channel as much as I do with Battlefield and so on
Thanks for the great replies so far |

Again as someone coming in with frankly no real working knowledge of eve how would you go about finding what corp is right for you

You've addressed many of the concerns that people have about Dust. The concept is incredible but the core element just isn't there.
Either CCP have a better build ready to go with a better frame-rate and mechanics or this is as good as it gets in terms of game-play.
I think it needs to have the hooks that a game like BF3, Planetside, Tribes Ascend and Halo have for it to be a success.
I am skeptical about it's future and I don't think it should be in open beta at this time.
Also I am curious if people think or agree with me that there is a danger that wether people like to admit it or not console players are simply not as committed or hardcore as PC players when it comes to a game franchise. Now I should know because I played wow solidly for 5 years before now playing only on the PS3 for the most part. There is a much smaller % of players on console who will really commit to a game as far as I have seen it, and I think a title would have to be very strong in order to hold a console community thats workable.
That for me is a major concern when it comes to DUST, im not trying to be overly pessimistic because I think the concept and premise of DUST 514 is really amazing and I think it speaks volumes for CCP that they have the vision and strength as developers to push this title into reality.
If its done right it could be the beginning of a whole new chapter in console gaming, I hope that's how dust turns out. |
